Pooch to 5K (aka My Version of C25K)

I know, I know. It's been a while since I've posted. I apologize. Let's get over it. :)

I've been trying to lose weight for a while now, and I know that I need to exercise more. The boys also need more exercise, so I decided to include them in my new journey. A friend of mine is a new runner, and she started a blog about her experiences. She mentioned C25K. I had no idea what that was, so I Googled it. (What else do you do when you don't know what something is?)

C25K stands for Couch 2 5K, and it is a running program designed to get your butt off your couch and running a 5K with no stopping within 9 weeks. There are variations to the regular program, and one of them is called Pooch 2 5K! This program varies slightly and is 12 weeks long instead of 9.

I decided to start my Pooch 2 5K program, but I was a little worried about the timing of it. The first week, you're supposed to warm up with a 5-minute walk, then alternate running for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds (for a total of 20 minutes), then cool down with another 5-minute walk. I looked into different apps for my phone but they costs money. Granted, they were only a $1.99, but what if it didn't work? What if I didn't like the app? What if I decided to stop my program? Anyway, I found some free podcasts online. You download the mp3 file, and it plays music, with a voice-over telling you when to walk, when to run, etc.

However, the podcasts were only for the regular C25K program. I tried but couldn't find any for the 12-week Pooch 2 5K, so I decided to just go for it, and run with Kool and Swift on the regular C25K 9-week program.

I prepared for my first week by buying fancy-schmancy sneakers, downloading all 9 podcasts, and reading tips and tricks online. We'll let you know how it goes!

My expensive high-quality new running shoes.

P.S. "Running" translates into jogging for me. I don't run. As in, I absolutely HATE to run. But I will jog. :)

Wordless Wednesday #25

Kool with his head under the couch. There is nothing there. So. Weird.
